it is with a heavy heart and many tears that i am announcing that Richard Hatch has died ,, Feb. 7 2017 .. Richard was best known for his role as Captain Apollo on the original Battlestar Galactica series ... i knew Richard personally , and worked for several years for him , , not only on his Battlestar Galactica revival project , but on his Great War Of Magellan project as well ,, His Battlestar revival project is responsible for sparking the renewed interest in Battlestar Galactica , and got the attention of SyFy channel , that lead to the extemely successful reboot of Battlestar Galactica , ,, i will always remeber and cherish the time i had the privilege of knowing and working for him ,,, it was truely one of the best times of my life ,,, when i was young (7 to 8 years old ) i loved Battlestar Galactica ,, it is a rare thing to ever meet a childhood hero ,, much less to have the honor of working with them ,, and for this i am truely thankful ,,, i lack the words to adequately express my sorrow , all i can do is take comfort in the hope that he is in a happier place ,,, ,,, ...... God speed Richard ,  may you find the stars and all that is the wonder of this universe .....

this is the trailer that Richard developed with his own money , for the love of Galactica ,,, i worked on this and am very proud of it , for it was the primary factor in the revival of the Battlestar Project , ultimately leading to the new Battlestar Galactica series on SyFy channel ...... the number one show on television for three years .....

R.I.P.- Richard Hatch

I remember watching Battlestar Galactica as a kid.  What a great show!  Captain Apollo (Richard Hatch), and Lieutenant Starbuck (Dirk Benedict) were my favorite characters on that show.  They had some great adventures together in episodes on that show.  He definitely will be missed by many.

Rip.

I really liked the original series and used to watch it almost every episode they showed here in Finland. Would definitely watch a remake.

as much as i liked the syfy reboot , the original will always be my favorite ,,, Richard's project had much more to offer than this trailer was able to convey , but bare in mind that it was made from donated work and money out of his own pocket ,,, myself as well as a handfull of other CGI animators worked for free to help get this project off the ground , and considering it was done on less than a shoe string budget , i think it turned out well , but there was so much more to it ,,, Richard's continued story line from the original series was excelent ,,, it ignored the less than remarkable Battlestar Galactica 80 disaster , with the exception of the episode The Return Of Starbuck , which was actually originally intended to be part of the next season of the original series , and was filmed before the series was cancelled ,,,, like many other bad network decissions,, the decission to cancel Galactica was regreted and rethought  , but instead of admiting that a mistake in judgement was made (like Fox when they un cancelled family guy lol ) , and letting Glen Larson go forward with the original plot line , the network figured it could save face , so to speak , and release a pseudo new show ,,, which was in my opinion a complete disaster ,,, worse than jumping the shark ,,,, but by this time Glen Larson  was already busy with Buck Rogers In The 25th Century (another of my childhood favorites) ....... Richard's story line together with this trailer got the attention of Bryan Singer , and was on its way to major production ( with major budget !!) but had to take a side seat to the X-Men projects , and was put on permanent hold . Ronald Moore , the creator of the Galactica reboot also took notice of Richard's project , but was more interested in the amount of attention that Richard had developed , not so much in his story line ,,, but to make sure that Richard's efforts were rewarded aknowledged , he was given a signifigant role in the new series ,, not quite a main character , but far more than a simple cameo ,, a role that Richard portayed perfectly ..., like i said in my first post , i knew Richard personally , he was just as charming and charismatic as he was on screen , he was very driven and devoted to realizing his dreams , and he was very open to ideas from those that worked for him to fans at conventions , he was never too busy to answer a question  or to give an autograph , even when a fan caught him on the way out of the hotel , after the convention was over , and he had a arm full of luggage , that fan was me lol , and that meeting led to a long friendship .   again i want to thank all of you that took the time to read this thread , and to remember him ,,,
