Days of War

Has anybody tried this one ? It's just been released and looks pretty good. A classic multiplayer WW2 shooter with really nice graphics (Unreal Engine 4) and up to 32 players. It has 9 classes and 20 different weapons.

It's only 25$ so I think I'll go ahead and buy it today and see if it's good. It's a sequel to Days of Defeat (which I had never heard of until today).

Anyway if some people here try this game, please give some feedback here.

"Only" $25... for an Early Access game... <_< ...No thank you.

Witnessed too many E.A. multiplayers die off once devs lose interest (DayZ anyone?). $25 to start... 185 mixed reviews so far >.< not a good sign in the beginning... I would pass on this until there's a sale or until 5 or 6 months into development to see where it goes...

My first impressions :

The graphics are very nice, mostly small urban maps with lots of places to hide, empty buildings were you can climb to shoot people from windows, stairways, etc. The textures, the snow, the walls, the dust, etc. everything looks nice (the smoke effects need to be tweaked by the programmers though) but it's still far from a game like Far Cry 4. The sounds are pretty good and realistic too. Depending on which surface you walk on, the sound will be different and you can hear the footsteps of enemies and allies getting closer. The weapons sound great too IMO. I got no FPS problems with my GeForce 970. The game ran smoothly.

Now the gameplay : it's non-stop action and the respawn time is very short. The maps are small so you don't waste time getting lost in empty places where nothing is happening. It's also pretty realistic so don't expect an arcade experience like ET. If you play rambo and rush you'll get killed within seconds. Most of the time a single shot will kill you (sometimes from out of nowhere). You always have to be pretty cautious and stay close to the walls, take cover behind cars etc. otherwise you'll be killed in a heartbeat. There's plenty of weapons but I have only tested the rifle and a submachine gun like the MP-40. As in most modern FPS' you can either directly shoot or aim with the right mouse button. I got OK results with the rifle but the recoil of the submachine gun is pretty intense, so don't aim at the head otherwise you'll be shooting at the ceiling.

It's a pretty difficult game, like a modern version of ultra hardcore ET Pro. It's Allies VS Axis with either Deathmatch, Domination or Capture the Flag, therefore it's not objective-oriented like ET. Also you don't call airstrikes, revive people, give ammo or medic packs, etc. but you can drop explosive charges. You just frag and that's it.

There are mixed reviews of the game because most of the comments are based on the free pre-release version. I bought it the day it was released so I got to play the early commercial version which is apparently better than the pre-release version according to the in-game chat I've read.

It's private server based like ET. When you start the game you have a menu in which you choose your server based on ping, number of players, etc. just like in ET. You then choose either Allies or Axis, your class and you play.

So far I like it. The WW2 atmosphere is pretty immersive and the gameplay is fun. But as I said it's difficult and you get easily killed. I'll post more feedback later.

Do you mind recording your gameplay. Unedited. Commentary is optional but better. Explain what's happening as you go along. If you can haha. Post it here. Its hard to see what's going on with words. I have visualized what it might look like but I prefer solid imagery and audio to get a more realistic view on what the game is about. Cheers.

Hahhaha huehuehue hehheh <3 thx alpha

Well, the game is OK for the price of three pints of beer but it's nowhere as fun as ET ^_^

Dude nothing beats ET. ET offers a unique immersive experience that you just don't get in current games. No matter how long its been, I always find my way back to ET. Never had that feeling with any other game. ET is love, ET is life. ET is wife.

Well said. Imagine being part of the team which created that pure marvel back then. It's like being part of history.
