the unknown device is irritating. Maybe it is something you need in order to get it going.

Like SadElf asked: Whats the brand and device name? (you can turn the laptop around and check the sticker, usually by the battery)

So you're saying that you went to update your drivers and ended up with none at all?

(If you did this, first try system restore)

Look like Windows 7/8, maybe an Acer?

Alright so first things first, give us some more info!

Give this a try:

Go to device manager

Right click on the atheros wifi hardware

      Select properties

Then go to the Driver tab

Now write down the Driver date & Version on a piece of paper or something.

Go back to device manager

  Uninstall the Unknows Hardware

  Uninstall the Wifi hardware

Check my pm for the new drivers you'll be using

Download zip file

Extract to a folder on desktop

Go back to device manager

On the top click Active Drop down box

Then click Scan For Hardware Changes

It should bring back the wifi and unknown hardware

Right click on Wifi hardware

   Click on update driver software

Then select Browse My Computer for driver software

   Then click Browse button

Select the folder you made on the desktop with the extracted zip file (has to be extracted not still in .zip format)

Let it update

Hopefully this new driver will function correctly.

For the unknown device, right click on it and select properties. Go to the details tab, then in the drop down list select hardware id. Try googling the top line, or paste them all here for us to try and search for. Most of the time googling will quickly show what it is (card reader is always the one I have left over like that).
