Doctor's verdict is in on my finger problem...

If you read my blog then you know about my arm and hand problem.

I got the verdict Friday.  It is a long term problem called Myelinopathy.  It is a degeneration of the myelin sheath that covers

the nerves in our body.  It turns out that not only is my Right Index finger affected, but all the nerves in both hands.

Nothing they can really do about it.  But it is going to get worse until I won't be able to move my fingers without severe pain happening.

The doctor said it started years ago from getting into all those fist fights, hurting my hands working on cars and other injuries.

So I am going to give you young kids a very important word of advice.  Walk away.  I have a temperament that won't let me do that.  So

I fought everyday in school.  Sometimes I started it, but 99% of the time it was a bully of some kind.  I fought in Golden Gloves for two years

in High School and still had to fight guys after school.  Growing up in an Indian school probably wasn't good for me.

So here is what happens now.  I will be put on some medicine to keep the pain and inflammation down but it won't stop the spread.  Using the mouse

in the games and online will be cut down a lot and finally will have to stop.  Even using the TV zapper will get difficult in the future.  So I am starting

using my left hand more.  The medication makes you sick at first with nausea and vomiting until your body gets used to it.  I am going to be in an arm/hand

splint for a while to see if immobilization helps.  Driving is going to be a real pain.  Playing guitar is not going to happen for a while.  My left hand is not

as bad as my right so I can still do things but it is going to take some serious re-training.

Right now I have to put my hand in cold water for 15 minutes then I have to put it in hot wax for 15 minutes, 4 times a day.  Aspirin helps but not Tylenol.

I will get my first cortisone shots next week.  The area where they put the medicine makes it excruciatingly painful, so I have that to look forward to also.

I will get one shot in four places twice a month for about 6 months.

So I just wanted to let you guys know what is happening.  I will still log in to COD4 but will probably just spectate.

I want you young guys to take care of yourself, because, all the injuries you get when you are young, never go away.  They come back when you get older.

I have broken so many bones and damaged my brain so many times, I wonder how I am still alive.  I am also starting to suffer from mental illness now and

I have small strokes from time to time.  So if I don't log on for about 2 or 3 weeks, I am probably dead.

Love you guys,

Ol' Smoke
