depends, if you were not driving and he hit you it is his fault. either way the location you are at  seems to be an intersection and driving backwards on one of those isn't the smartest thing in the world to do so again fault of the other driver.

If you were dead stopped, you aren't at fault (mind you I have no idea what country you live in and there may be different traffic laws there). If he reversed into you, he is at fault.

Good news is if you get the insurance company involved, they'll be able to give you a more precise answer. But from my layman's understanding of how road laws work, you aren't at fault.

I do not know the road code, in Belgium. In Portugal its his fault because before someone reverse it must check theres nobody behind.

Basically if u weren't driving, it's obviously his fault, u should use the horn for that, but the basic common knowledge is that if u are driving in reverse u have to use back and side mirrors, thats how we were taught at the driving instructions, so obviously that guy is lacking some of that if he didnt see u at the back, therefore it's entirely his fault, if u were not driving and were staying while he was going in reverse, it's his fault completely, best would be to call insurance at the same point and let them send one of their people to take pictures and take your statement. U will most likely have to write report at the insurance place, stating what happend with a small scheme of crash, as well as his statement that he's guilty for this, which is the most important here.
