New Men in Black Trilogy in the Works

Sony is moving forward with new Men in Black movies, but they may not feature lead actor Will Smith. That's according to Walker Parkes and Laurie MacDonald, who talked about the project in a new interview.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Parkes confirmed that the MiB revival is "very active" within Sony right now. "We're in the middle of it," he explained.

Asked directly if Smith--who played Agent J in all three MiB films--would have a role in it, Parkes replied, "Most likely no." It's unclear, too, if Tommy Lee Jones--who also starred in all three movies so far--will appear in the forthcoming films.

Whatever the case, McDonald added that Sony is planning to revive the series as a trilogy.

It's still early days for the new MiB trilogy, so there are no casting or plot details yet for the film, which also does not have a release date. In 2014, leaked Sony Pictures emails suggested that Sony was working on a MiB/21 Jump Street crossover film. However, neither Parkes nor McDonald made any mention of that in the new interview.

The most recent MiB movie was 2012's MiB 3, which was a box office smash with more than $624 million in global ticket sales. Altogether, the three-movie franchise has generated more than $1.6 billion at the box office.
