Country Flag problem

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I've had this problem for a while now and I have no idea how to resolve it, even after consulting several websites.

I'm not sure what triggered this problem but I'm pretty sure it started happening ever since I've changed my router.

I also requested the help of our member Shadow which is pretty good with networks and such, but he wasn't able to figure it either - even though he has the same router as me.

Basically, the country flag shown beside player names when pressing TAB is not correct.

For example, on Silent 1, my flag is shown as ''Other'' and on Hardcore, it thinks that I live in the USA (see pictures below), but I actually live in Canada.

I am pretty sure that before I changed my router, it was showing the correct Canada flag.

No, I am not using proxy or anything like that, Shadow verified that, tried removing the firewall and some other things, without success.

If you think you can help me it would be much appreciated; you can add me on xfire so that we can discuss it more.

Thank you for your time and have a great day.

Just so you have some history to go on I turned off everything that could possibly interfere router firewall ,windows firewall, antivirus, and added his computer to the routers DMZ via Mac address. Still issue persisted. Website www.geoiptool.com correctly listed Canada as his location.

Possible solution could be to update the GEOIP Database the server is using.

Quick update : I changed my router, but it didn't help, I still have the same problem.

After some more research, some people seem to have the same problem as me and the answer was to update the GEOIP Database for their servers.

This isn't urgent in any way so we might want to wait until this problem affects more people before changing anything, if this is even the solution.

Thank you

Yeah, FA servers have been showing a wrong flag for me as well but it has never really bothered me tbh.  When I first started playing on FA servers I had a Swiss flag (I live in Switzerland) and no problems for about 6 months.  Then, around early May, for a while I had a French flag, and now (since about 2-3 weeks) I have a German flag.  But, I'm still in Switzerland. :D

We use public geoip.dat which is controlled by 3rd party people :)

It goes by IP adresses, not by the language spoken :P and basically, every part of the world have a specific IP range and that's how we know in which country people are.
