Terrible for all involved but at least there are no fatalities.  Feel bad for the new owner who had dreams of the maiden voyage.  Hopefully the insurance was in place.

Thank you for the expression of sorrow guys. Again, I'm most happy noone was killed. Boats can be replaced.

I'm just pissed because I believe this was preventable.  Anyway, here's some video released today of it rolling and the rescue.

And here's a link to my gallery, where I had displayed some of the woodwork that I built for that yacht.

I think that's absolute bullshit that its still that risky to put boats like that into the water :( Sorry for your loss and the owner's loss. That is certainty heartbreaking. Of course, happy no one was killed. That had to be extremely scary for those on board.

Here's a video of the launch.......

Despite what the host says, these guys have issues. Yes they have had successes, and yes the boats are beautiful, but I know for certain, especially after watching this video, that they completely f'ed up this launch. On top of that, i know alot more about their general business practices that would make any true business professional cringe.

If the owners have any brains, they'll just sue them for every cent they can get. If the Coast Guard does it's job, they should be found guilty of gross negligence.

Grrrrrrr, and 60 employess have been layed off.... sooo maaaaaddddd! :censored

In this article,  http://www.kirotv.com/news/news/new-video-yacht-launch-went-wrong-anacortes/nf532/   one of the former leads admits that the dolly's tires were flat, clear evidence that the dolly was too small to handle this yacht, and also admits what I'm acerting, the ballast was not enough, and not balanced. And to top it off, these assholes should have stopped this launch the second they saw it listing that badly so soon, they had plenty of time to call it off, and re-assess the ballast etc. before continuing.  :war:

Woke up this am to my wife saying I was pictured in a boating magazine........here's an article in Passage Maker magazine...

http://www.passagemaker.com/articles/trawler-news/accidents/disaster-in-anacortes-capsize-company-lays-off-workforce/

talking about the botched launch, in which I found two interesting and disturbing things.

One, the picture shows the back of my dread-locked head taken during the last production meeting we had there while I was employed there,

and Two, one of the comments left there by Phil Friedman, who IMO is exactly right in his questions. This was not an "accident". Just because something happens suddenly, doesn't mean its an "accident". Systemic bad practice, bad management, poor engineering, and woefully unacceptable financial habits don't make it an "accident". There are a very many local boat-builder's in our area that are very well run and have high quality and great ethics that we never get to hear about in the news. New World/Northern make all the rest look bad and hurt the whole industry, not just themselves.

I've lived here in Anacortes, WA for a long time, and in that time worked for 3 local boat-builders, and had working knowledge of the general working atmoshere and process of at least 3 or more others. All of them, with the obvious exception of New World, were run in a very professional and responsible way.
