COD Ghosts : Game Crashing

Antichrist

Question

Ok I have a brand new sexy legit copy of COG Ghosts that I got for Christmas.

This is the PC version, Store bought game with 4 discs, And still a Steam game (Installs Steam along with the game if Steam isn't already installed)

I have fixed my RAM issue, (Replaced with 4 brand new sticks, direct from Corsair) so that isn't the cause.

System Specs:

Windows 7 64 bit SP1

 16gb RAM

Video: EVGA NVidia GTS450

23" Asus monitor Native resolution 1920x1280

AMD 3.3 x6 core

I do have DirectX 11 Installed as well.

I had the game fully installed from CD, And the menus all work fine, settings changes are fine, I can go between fullscreen and windowed no problem.

When I select my settings, and click to start, it gets 75% loaded, then freezes, mouse cursor appears, and when I left click, the game disappears, and said it crashed. When I start it again, it offers to run in safe mode, which I have tried with the same results.

I have tried launching the game from the desktop icons, as well as from within Steam, and both produce the same outcome of a crash before I can play.

Has anyone had/heard of a similar issue? And do you know of any fix for it? I haven't been able to find anything really helpful outside of "Minimum system requirements" guides and trouble shooting checklists on Steam which I've gone through and had no success.

EDIT: Also this is when I am trying to launch the single player mode. I have not tried to launch Multiplayer yet.

Can you check the Event Viewer's Application logs for anything listed as Error or Critical for the game?

Honestly, I didn't even think of this.. looking it up now. TY

You are the man.

I found it under Application Logs:

Faulting application name: iw6sp64_ship.exe, version: 1.0.0.1, time stamp: 0x52a258f8

Faulting module name: nvwgf2umx.dll, version: 9.18.13.3182, time stamp: 0x5280d79f

Exception code: 0xc0000005

Fault offset: 0x00000000009c8cba

Faulting process id: 0x15ac

Faulting application start time: 0x01cf08bbf8466abc

Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Call of Duty Ghosts\iw6sp64_ship.exe

Faulting module path: C:\Windows\system32\nvwgf2umx.dll

Report Id: 792b1d92-74af-11e3-a859-5404a63ceb54

Looks like some kind of NVidia dll file is messing things up.

Alright. Fixed. This is what I did exactly:

I started to download the game from Steam, and it was going to take forever, so I canceled that, and installed from CD again.

After I installed Disc 1 and 2, and part of 3 I was reinstalling VCRedist, and .NET Framework v4.5.1. At this time I had to completely close Steam to finish the installation of .NET. I did that, and .NET completed, then I started Steam again, allowing it to download a little more. Again this was super slow, so I closed Steam, and Put in Disc 1 thinking I might have to start over. It scanned Disc 1, and told me to put in Disc 2, Scanned disc 2, then told me to put in Disc 3. Scanned most of Disc 3, and had about 5 minutes left to install, so it continued. Then Disc 4. After Disc 4 was complete, I looked at Steam, and it was still showing as downloading Multiplayer, so I let that finish.

After that was done, I restarted my PC, and tried the game on Single player with all default graphics, and it worked.

I then maxed out all the graphics, and tried again, and it still worked.

So as of now, the problem is solved. If I run into any future issues, I'll document them here, maybe it'll help someone out there :)
