Server Update F|A SILENT RECRUITING XPS

We have udpated our Etpub server to Silent Mod. Silent Mod is basically developed by Gaoesa, Silencer, me and JamesPlock and is based on Etpub.

 

We have optimized many parts of Etpub to provide better performance and features and we have some decent goals for our upcomming releases.

Some end user noticable changes:

1. There will be no more players with 15 maxpackets and 5000 rate. Server will auto fix there maxpackets and rate.

Users can choose any range between 30 to 100 for there maxpackets and 25000 to 45000 for there rate.

2. PPSH new weapon for limited class.

3. Trip (Laser) Mines. - Only 3 (server cvar) per team at present.

4. Map Voting Changes - Highlights winning map with different color to promote map voting.

7. Users can throw knife now at longer distance if they hold fire button for few secs.

9. No more random annoying PM sounds. Sound code has been rewritten.

10. Backward following in spec mode.

Admin related changes:

1. User storage (XP and admin level) as been ported over to db system.

2. Supports offline banning like in jaymod.

3. !listplayers changed to !list

4. !userinfo changed to !finger. !userinfo will display more enhanced output. Both commands exist.

5. !stats command available. Displays the Thompson, MP40 and PPSh total kills and deaths, kills and deaths during the map and accuracy, headshotratio and headshot distance during the map. Lists all connected players.

 

Optimization:

1. We have done various optimizatoins to lower bandwidth, CPU and memory usage at server and client side.

2. Fixed server crahses related to omni bots.

 

Note: If you are server admin, I suggest to check our full change log.

 

In Game: Press Esc -> Click on Report Bug -> Select Yes. It will open our bug tracker and report bug there with explanation so we can fix it.

 

Note: There is no XP loss.

Note: Hitboxes are same except performance optimization. I will post screenshots of Silent mod hitboxes pretty soon in our Gallery.

Make sure you have submitted last 8 characters of your GUID in your profile correctly. We will use GUID from your profile to give admin level back.

About the Ppsh settings, dont worry, take your time to change them, as i always said: Holidays are untouchable (not work at all just rest) :D

I don't know if I should post this here or in the silent mod forums but here it goes: When someone gets a killing spree it should go in the chat area, its being displayed in the kill announcement area and most of the time if you hear a rampage or something you have to open up the console to see who it is because it gets scrolled up so fast. Before it would display 5 man kill spree in the chat, and then 10, 15, 20 etc were on the top of the screen for everyone to see. I think it is better the old way. I like to know who is doing good so I can kill their spree. Just a suggestion.

Gotta play a bit more in Silent mod before I can say it's nice.

But 1 thing would be nice to see back, namely shoutcast.

I'm not making this post to say the mod is not going to have changes regarding the PPSh weapon.

 

I think it is probably best though to clarify couple things about the weapon.

 

The spreads are:

mp40 and Thompson = 400

PPSh = 390

Sten = 200

 

Difference to mp40 and Thompson is very small and it still is almost twice bigger then the spread of the sten.

 

Spread is calculated:

spread*spreadscale

 

Current spreadscale increases equally in every shot with weapons mp40, thompson, PPSh and sten.

 

The factual differences with default settings:

* 1 hp difference in damage with every shot.

* Spread is approximately two times bigger then with sten. 2,5% smaller then with mp40 or Thompson.

* Spread increases equally with all of them.

 

Maybe it is that blade is just that good.

 

This post does not mean that the PPSh or it's configuration options will remain as it is with 0.2.1 in future versions.

 

EDIT:

The maximum spreadscale is capped at 1.0 i.e. the maximum spread is the constant value mentioned in the post.

I don't know if this is the right place for suggestions, anyway:

 

- is it possible to speed up (that is, remove the delay from) 'obituary' messages, it would be nice if, after a kill, the 'player1 was killed by player2' message was instantly displayed, and not after a while. If there is already a cvar for that then sorry :)

 

- I would like (but it's not a high priority of course) to have a setting like etpro b_hitsounds 2 (only headshot hitsounds), and also I was wondering if the hitsounds infos are sent in the EV_BULLET_HIT_FLESH event, even for other players (as etpro does it) or in a separate event, only for the current player. Because it would be nice to see demos from other players povs, and be able to hear the hitsounds.

The delay was completely removed from obituary(popup) messages. I'm not sure about adding a cvar to add delay.

Events are not used at all for the hitsounds. Like you mentioned, the events got spammed to all players within the range. The hitsounds are embedded within other data sent from the server to the client. The mod has cvar cg_hitsounds 0/1 that can enable or disable hitsounds from the client even if the server would like to send them. Client option for playing only headshots can be added in my opinion.

I think the new gun and the trip mines are way too overpowering.

 

I got 66 acc with the new gun and it has the damage as mp40/thompson and shoots like the sten, while trip mines are deadly like dyno but it goes off in 1 second you trip over them. i can't imagine new players getting used to this, but on other hand players who played this game long enough can get used to it pretty easily.

 

I like the admin commands, and everything else feels like pub
