Website Not Sure Where To Post This

Recommended Posts

Today, Shana locked an old thread that was bumped up by @Petrovski concerning syncing folders with the reason don't bump old threads. My question is, why not? I thought his reply was interesting and informative and so what if DD doesn't need the info any longer, other people might. Nothing against Shana, just curious why bumping an old thread with new info would be looked down on

I found this post from DD: https://fearless-assassins.com/topic/39895-dead-topics/?do=findComment&comment=350564

Not sure if it still applies.

Seems according that, Petrovski was OK to respond to that thread, right?

I think it's the thread I replied.

But wasn't the thread in spam section?

So increasing my post count there is not bad,  I suppose?

I was just curious as it was a spam thread.

I guess my question is would that be really considered bumping a dead thread for no reason if the reply had good information in it? I mean, I thought it was good stuff, myself, especially since we're moving more and more into "the cloud" and folder syncing across multiple platforms is becoming more necessary

ok this is how it goes we prefer that you not bump realy old post but would rather you start a new topic if you want to add something

you can add the link of the old topic if you like for reference  but we would again prefer if its 2 years or older not to reply in it becuse often the info is not relevant any more or it contains broken links  hope this explains well

If your information is valid or have more questions on it, use same topic in discussion.

If it’s support topic - Q asked and Q answered, topic closed.

+1 .. to this as well cos imagine new user trying to figure something out.. and use 2016 software...

But imagine if it’s topic on direct piece of code or Q related to pk3 which hasn’t changed since last 10 years ... then it’s all good bumping same topic.

In a nutshell just use common sense :) If OP forgets to check, staff can always split the topic. If OP does it intentionally all the time, warning helps.

The truth is that I simply forgot to check the date of the post. DD's question was on the first page of the PC support forum and I did not expect posts on the first page to be that old, but after Shana locked the thread I noticed the date (and of other posts on the first page). It's simply a less popular section on the FA forums.

Most forums have rules against bumping old posts and the general reason for that is that in most cases replying to old stuff is not relevant any more and clutters threads. I've moderated several forums in the past myself and am very aware of this rule (or even netiquette if you like). But still, mistakes happen. ;-)

Same here, buddy. I just though that in THIS instance, when I first read it that it was good information, even though DD may not be looking for an answer still, was relevant to the topic, but it's all good. Gives me something to check out, so thanks for that
