One of the most common questions is "Will a SSD give me a performance boost in games. So what I did was compare 3Dmark Vantage Scores between a regular HDD and an SSD.   Overview of the Kingston 64GB V Series SSD:   200 mb/s Read 100 mb/s write mounting options for desktop and laptop was priced at $110 at NCIX

UPDATE Gamer Nightz #1: Diablo 2 for Everyone

Gamer Nightz #1: Diablo 2 For Everyone         Gamer Nightz is just a fun idea of having once every week (or 2 weeks) a new set of games to play with everyone from FA community. It gives the chance for people to play different games on a friday night with people they know =D (not some random strangers and help introduce people to more games out there ). Anyone can suggest a game, and I will post a poll in the gaming discussion thread to organize future gatherings for diffe

Why DVD cases are BULLSHIT !

Why DVD Cases are Bullshit !     You know what pisses me off? DVD cases. Facking huge ass cases that only use up 60% of its actual space to hold a single DVD. I have like 20 Xbox 360 games and they are big space wasters. I can't keep them in my CD rack or my TV cupboard so I have to keep them on a shelf like its a fricken book.     So Fack you whoever invented DVD cases. What ever happened to the PS1 era of normal cases that were compact in design. 20 DVD cases fill the

Tips for shopping for a Gaming Computer

1.) Don't get a Dell EVER Seriously don't get Dell. The quality is shit, the parts are expensive and they usually have some gimickie safeguards inplace like locking bios. Some people say it is good to do that because it keeps stupid idiots from destroying their computer but really how stupid can people be? (actually I better not ask that).   They also have special custom made hardware for some of their models. Like specially screw holes that only fit Dell PSU's !! I even seen

Making my Own Rig: CPU, Motherboard and Fan Layout

Alright so I finally picked up my MOBO and CPU today.   I went with an Athlon II x4 620 for $108.99 and MSI 790X-G45 ATX AM3 Crossfire Motherboard for $89.99. Both are just average mobo + CPU compared to what is out there in todays market, but its good enough for me. When installing the CPU, you have to lift the safety arm, and then just drop the damn thing in. Afterwards close the safety arm and put the stock cooling on (no tube lube needed because the retail stock cooler already has the ther

Making My Own Rig: 3DMark and PCMark Vantage Benchmarks

Now that I finally finished my computer, I think its time I released some benchmarks on how well it performs.   This Vantage Marks are for a CPU and GPU that has not been overclocked. I will plan to clock them in the future.   PCMark 05 Vantage     Pretty much testing all aspects of the computer (from rendering graphics, website surfing, to HDD usage). I really don't know where my computer stands up compared to the average since they do not disclose the PCmark average for all compu

Onion's Computer Building Guide: Processor, RAM and Coolers

Processor   How to choose a Processor?   For choosing a Processor, the main deciding factors will usually be its: CPU rating ( I use http://www.cpubenchmark.net/ ) Number of cores Number of physical CPU's (a single dual core or quad core is still 1 CPU. Most Processors only have 1) Price   The processor you choose will either be an AMD or Intel brand. Which one you should choose? Well in the end it all comes down to your price range of course =P. The $600 dollar canadian gaming rig

Both of us are complete noobs so when we actually got this to work, we were honestly surprized.   Here is the computer me and my friend built under $600. Was it the best rig? No definitely not. $600 dollars Canadian was his budget so DDR3 ram and compatible motherboard was out of the question he said (only would have costed him an extra $50 bucks more for a ddr3 mobo version of this and ocz 4gig ddr3 ram). The motherboard though was said to be pretty decent for a low end board (its not ASUS ma

Making My Own Rig: The Case

Alright so here is the case. It costed me $17 and came with a 480W power supply. First thing I am planning to do is huck the power supply out the window because this shitty 480W PSU actually only puts out 300W. But for $17 I can't complain right?     So the first thing to do is put the fans in. It is important which way you want the fans to be placed. If you don't know what is the intake and outtake sides of the fan, most fans have an arrow on the side indicating the air flow directi

Making My Own Rig: The Video Card

Today I unboxed a XFX HD 5770 which I bought at NCIX for a price of $174.99 Canadian     Unboxing it was really nothing special. You get this nice fancy box with a lot of shiny all over it. Inside is your video card, installation guide and crossfire wire + adapters.   Okay so first look at the video card and you can tell one thing.... it is quite solid and not a flimsy piece of junk (like that XFX HD4870). It has one exhaust vent that moves air outside of the case and side

Making My Own Rig: Cathodes and Fans

Making My Own Rig: Stealth Cover for DVD Drive

Alright so Number1Dad told me to try to do a stealth DVD Drive, so I am doing that right now   First thing I did was take the Drive Slot Plate and sand the snap-ons down.     Next thing I did was sand the hell out of the slot plate so it will easily move in and out of the DVD drive slot. Afterwards I used the handyman's secret weapon and some folded paper to fill up the empty volume of the slot. This way the DVD Drive and the plate will actually touch each other.   Also make sur
