Just noticed this topic o.O wanted to chime in on being uber stoked about D3. Figured I'd throw battletag out there for anyone who wanted to add it Monkeylover#1202. Wont be sleeping at all tonight (although with juggling ET and MoP Beta in WoW I dont get much of that anyways at this point.

#255459 NEW PC Build

Posted General on 27 December 2011 - 02:52 PM

Tell your Brother to get you an AMD Card cause your Mobo only supports CFX, and not SLI ( NVIDIA)

Oh yeah, forgot to tell you, my Mobo supported PCI-e 3.0 ( though it wont be fully taken advantage of for awhile), Quad CFX (crossFireX), and Quad SLI :DDDDD

Ill PROBABLY overclock my i5 2500k but i dunno.

Also - Newegg isnt the cheapest either :) Microcenter beats Newegg at some things, like the i5 2500k. Its consistently like $40 less

#250426 Computer problem. Shutting down when it want..

Posted You on 12 December 2011 - 04:00 PM

did you install any new thing that requires power in your pc? like new LED's or new video card?
this problem could be caused by multiple reasons
but first thing first you have to check your PCU

you said when you use your PC that requires more power it shuts down, the only problem that i could think of is power issues
this could be due to faulty PSU that gives of unstable output AMPs or voltage

clean your pc first, if the issues persists i suggest to check your power supply and then memories

faulty PSUs are very bad, they can f*** your PC starting from memories and hard drives,

hope that help,

Download Memtest and burn it to a CD and then boot into it. It will test your memory. Do atleast 1 to 2 full passes.http://www.memtest.org/

Download LinX and install LinX. Choose a large project size or the blend test and let that run for an hour. At the same time, monitor your CPU and any motherboard temperatures closely. Anything over 80C is pretty damn hot for a CPU and I wouldn't recommend torturing any CPU like that. http://www.xtremesys...npack-interface

Download and installed FurMark. It will 100% load your graphics card. It could be that it is overheating or it is not getting enough power if it crashes during this.

If you have a CD rom or hard drive that is dying it can do weird stuff too. That should help you identify what components may be to blame.

#221597 Mouse DPI

Wo when looking for a mouse, obviously DPI in taken into account for the mouse to be considered "good". My question is what is a good DPI to be looking for in a mouse that we know will be worth the money we spend? I've seen some with 800 and some with 5700. I'm guessing higher DPI better the mouse?
dpi is not important. what is important in a mouse (imho) is:

- ergonomics (weight, shape, number and position of buttons, friction on your mousepad etc. )
- how good is the mouse in reproducing your hand movement on the screen regardless of how fast you move (no skipping, no acceleration)

since it doesn't make sense to aim at 1/100th of a pixel, beyond a certain dpi value you will have no advantage in having more dpi

View PostG!NG3R420, on 17 September 2011 - 01:26 PM, said:

I'm guessing right now I have about 500-800 dpi with 3.0 sens and my long distance kills are hard to get since I cant really get the target =/
Then it means you have a sens which is too high for you, lower it and play with a lower one. You know, you can have any value, you are not limited to integers. Getting more dpi won't help you with that.

You say you have 'about' 500-800 dpi, well there is a way to see how many dpi you are using (it works only if you don't use accel):

make a 360 turn in ET and check how many inches you move on the table (1 inch = 2.54 cm, so if you measure in cm divide by 2.54)
do 360 / your sens * m_yaw
(m_yaw is generally forced to 0.022) so:

16363.64 / your sens

take this value, and divide it by the movement on the table in inches to get the dpi.

in my case:
I need 8.66 inches for a 360
I have 0.9 sens
(fixed value) my sens
16363.64 / 0.9 = 18181.8

result from above how much I need for a 360
18181.8 / 8.66 inches = 2099 dpi
which is more or less correct (my mouse has 2000 dpi)
p.s.
For those who say 'it doesn't work! my mouse has 9999999 dpi and I get less!' I say: silly, if you reduce your windows sens you are de facto reducing your dpi, as it has been said over and over.

How is less DPI better for et?
Because high dpi on windows gives you the so-called 'negative acceleration', which is bad.

Do this test: aim at a corner, then move your mouse away as fast as you can on the table. Return it *slowly* to the same spot (on the table, not on the screen).
Are you aiming at the same corner?

If yes, then you have no acceleration (good).
If you don't reach it then you have positive acceleration (slow movement is less than fast movement)
If you get past it then you have 'negative acceleration' (I know it's not an acceleration but they call it like this)

#96941 Nekron

Posted JoeDirt on 08 July 2010 - 03:14 PM

You might get an impression that only Pro gets moved but I can post many examples of ppl stacking teams, for example Dirty Bastard (he is the first person I move) Motorbreath (only way I made him play fair is by saying that he will get banned), grizzly used to play only axis (until I explained the rule to him) and many many others. When was the last time I moved a Pro* member jeez I can't even remember, torm usually switches teams when teams get a bit unfair so no complaints there, n3kron usually plays map or 2 and leaves so no I dont feel we single out anyone or any clan in particular. But I hold tab almost all the time so I know who is doing what. I even kicked out one F|A today because they didn't do shit as admin but stack teams.

#91502 Black Textures?

Posted SkyeDarkhawk on 21 June 2010 - 11:40 AM

Yeah, since you're running a completely different OS than myself, that definitely shoots it down to just a driver issue (probably ATi's implementation of OpenGL commands). And since NoGooD confirmed that 10.5 was also giving issues, looks like I'll be pushing back to 10.4 on my PC.

I also noticed that it quicksilvers not only the guns, but open med-kits and ammo-kits on racks, and the tank.

10.6 does all of the quicksilver, plus torn textures, and messes up water to either having a solid texture, or making it black. Pretty much breaks the game.
10.5 quicksilvers the guns and items, but not much else.

I also tried disabling OpenGL extensions in W:ET, and that fixed everything, but brought up a new problem. Frame rate. With OpenGL extensions, I'd have 90fps +/-5fps. With OpenGL extensions turned off, I'd have... 5fps on average. So also a game breaker.

Edit: Uninstalled 10.6 ( I reupgraded in vain hope of it fixing it), used a registry cleaner, then installed 10.4 Catalyst. Everything works fine now... though now I wonder how well Borderlands will perform... Ah good, still runs rather well. Which is strange, it used to lag like crazy, yet I haven't updated any hardware yet.
Anyway, 10.4 Catalyst fixes everything.

#82475 Why is filling 4 DIMMs of DDR3 RAM a bad idea?

Posted TulsaGeoff on 18 May 2010 - 12:56 AM

No one really answered this correctly. If your memory controller supports dual channel ram and you have two matching ram sticks put them in the same color slots. Filling all ram slots is only an issue if you are going for high overclocks because it is harder on the memory controller. My mother board runs tri channel ddr and I use slots 1,3,5. Only an Intel x58 chipset supports tri channel ram. Any other ddr3 ram is going to be ran in a dual channel configuration (2 or 4 sticks).

Basically put the ram in its matching slot colors. You can put it in two different slots but it will run slightly slower in a single channel mode. Its not a big difference anyways. And unless you are going for super high overclocks or running super fast ram ddr2 1066+ or dd3 1866+ it doesnt matter if you fill all the slots or not. If you use 2 different types of memory, all memory will only run as fast as the slowest stick.

Yep... I'll be back to pwn you noobs soon

#73905 Why is filling 4 DIMMs of DDR3 RAM a bad idea?

Posted TwoCrows on 03 April 2010 - 10:45 PM

Populating memory slots by itself won't prohibit you from reaching a certain overclock. What may impact the stability is the voltage droop and/or tolerances.

As to why differing brands with similar specs not running well...

Each manufacturer fine tunes their chips for their specific configurations, think of it as a fingerprint.  Also, most RAM is sold in matched sets (pairs, triples, etc) that were tuned/produced at the same time/same batch.

This isnt an absolute, but its like mixing oil and water; They are tuned slightly different ;)
