1. go to your et folder

2. click et.exe to run wonfenstein enemy territory

3. open console (NOTE: do NOT connect anywhere or load any mods, this is the most common fail)

4. write /com_hunkmegs 128

5. press enter

6. write /com_hunkmegs

7. you should see text like com_hunkmegs current:56 default:56 latched:128 or something

8. close console

9. press quit to exit enemy territory

10. click et.exe

11. open console

12. type /com_hunkmegs

13. you should see something like com_hunkmegs current:128 default:56

14. close wolfenstein enemy territory

15. victory!

or

1. go to your et folder

2. go to etmain

3. go to profiles

4. open etconfig.cfg in text editor

5. search for com_hunkmegs

6. change value to 128

7. save etconfig

8. you may have to repeat this for etconfig.cfg under n(o)q(uarter)/profiles

9. click et.exe

10. open console

11. type /com_hunkmegs

12. you should see something like com_hunkmegs current:128 default:56

13. close wolfenstein enemy territory

14. victory!

that should fix it

usually people try to set in while they are on server and some mod is loaded

that will pretty surely fail and cause confusion

  • 1 year later...
My new Win 10 Enemy Territory Jaymod had trouble writing to hunkusage.dat file...
I would get error on start of maps: Hunk_Alloc failed on 1468268544.
I tried running Et as Admin, Turning off App Control in Defender, Nothing worked...
I fixed by coping in an old hunkusage.dat file that I had saved.
If anyone gets that error They could try making a hunkusage file for Their jaymod.
Copy this to Notepad, Save as: All Files, Name:hunkusage.dat

It was corrupt hunkusage.dat file.

Deleting made new one be created...

All good!

He later changed it to

I just checked mine.  It was created in October of 2015 and last modified last night.  It looks like it kept a record of the maps loaded for play and probably their sizes, in 245 lines.

I definitely remember the maps loading in this same order on Jay#1.  :hmm

maps/fa_italy_b3.bsp 43359104
maps/etdo1.bsp 27831520
maps/fa_oasis_b3.bsp 45294592
maps/northpole.bsp 51229824
maps/et_mor2_night_final.bsp 37567232
maps/supplydepot2.bsp 26551552
maps/pirates.bsp 26954304

I wonder what would happen if those numbers were wrong.  I can definitely see a problem if the lines don't start with "maps/".

Oh, Sorry It was a corrupt map file.

I had downloaded and user a free program that contained a virus to convert a movie to DVD

Deleting bad map file fixed ET.

I was wrong to suggest using My Jaymod hunkusage file.

There is no excuse for not using anti-virus program.

All this happened 5 Years ago.

Hmm, I wonder if the corrupted map file was claiming to need more RAM than ET or the mod could provide?  :hmm

Buck's post will be a clue for future readers with this problem.

This isn't the only problem that I have read of caused by corrupt map files.  :hmm
