New Independence Day: Resurgence Trailer [extended]

new trailer for Independence Day: Resurgence has come online--and it offers one of the lengthiest looks at the upcoming doomsday movie yet.

The extended trailer is four-and-a-half minutes long. It teases out some of the story (the aliens are back with a vengeance) and includes some one-liners like this one from a US pilot as he heads to battle: "It's the fourth of July--let's show them some fireworks."

Resurgence is the follow-up to the 1996 blockbuster. Stars Jeff Goldblum, Vivica A. Fox, Brent Spiner, and Bill Pulman are all returning, together with director Roland Emmerich.

Will Smith, one of the stars of the original, is not coming back for Resurgence. According to the Independence Day fiction, Smith's character, Colonel Hiller, died as a result of an "unknown malfunction during the test flight of the first Alien Hybrid Fighter."

Hiller's son, Dylan, will appear in Resurgence. He is played by Jessie Usher.

In a recent interview with Fandango, Goldblum hinted that Resurgence may not be the last in series. "I think what they have in mind is that if this is well enjoyed, then they have some ideas," he said, via Slashfilm. "And there may even be an artful reference towards the end of the movie of what could [happen next]. It sets up the possibility that it's not over--that the fat lady has not yet sung."

Resurgence hits theaters on June 24. It also stars Maika Monroe, Liam Hemsworth, William Fichtner, and Charlotte Gainsbourg.

Loved the first film even if it was pure cheese on toast. I read Will Smith wanted too much money which is why he isn't in this? How much does he usually get paid?? I imagine this has a blockbuster budget behind it so he must have been after a ridiculous amount. Anyway kind of glad they refused to pay him what he wanted, at the end of the day it's an action movie and it doesn't exactly require a De Niro in Taxi Driver level of performance. Glad they killed him off so he can't weasle his way back in to any sequels once this one is a monster hit.

Anyone else think the trailer is too long? It's pretty much the entire story
