AjayBeny Posted April 21, 2015 Share Posted April 21, 2015 I have a laptop as well as a pc, My laptop configs are 8gb DDR3 Ram 2gb Graphics card AMD a10 cpu My pc Config 8gb RAM 1gb graphic card i5 processor But wolfenstein runs smooth in my Pc but has various lags on my laptop.. This is not only for ET but also for various other Games, Is this due to some heating issue or some other issues. docwarren Posted April 21, 2015 Share Posted April 21, 2015 Is your PC on Ethernet and laptop on wi-fi? That may be an issue. It may also be caused by the difference in background programs running on your PC vs. laptop. Posting this information may help us. Finally, running WinMtr data from both devices may be helpful in trying to diagnose your issues. Well you tell us;) CPUID HWmonitor is a good program to quickly check up temps. Also if laptop runs on battery it could run on energy save mode and throttle down a lot. That's what he is suggesting, that maybe when the laptop is unplugged from the charger, and running on the battery, that the laptop switches to energy save mode thus throttling down the performance of the laptop. redy. Posted April 26, 2015 Share Posted April 26, 2015 Hi Ajay, laptops are usually not designed for gaming. They are designed for battery life and to be mobile. Even if the hardware looks good on paper, it is usually not designed for gaming. (There are gaming laptops out there, usually pretty expansive and big for better hardware and cooling) You will probably have a hard time to find one change that fixes all your issues. The other posts talk already about possible reasons and they are all true. Here a couple of things to consider: - Disk Speed (laptops usually have slow spinning disks. This affects how fast files get read/write.) Possible solution: Install a faster disk like SSD - Power Options (like stated by Vanaraud/Krayzie, the laptop is designed to safe energy and produce as less heat as possible) Possible solution: You can change some things under the power options and performance options, run laptop plugged in so it doesn't throttle the hardware, get some cooling tools for the laptop so it doesn't overheat. - WIFI (like stated by docwarren, network, mouse, keybord etc over WIFI is bad for FPS games. This is related to the bandwidth and how long data needs to travel from A to B . Possible solution: Get an Ethernet cable and use wired components like mouse and keyboard. - Config (Like Ann!b@l stated, configs are a good method to let the game use the hardware components more optimal) Possible solution: Try different configs and optimize it for your needs. I like the mAus config, it gets me the best performance and eliminates a lot of lag spikes (links below) - Background Tools (Like docwarren stated, laptops come with a bunch of tools from the vendor. They run in the background and are sometimes tricky to stop/disable) Possible solution: I would always recommend to format your laptop and install a plain version of windows + the newest drivers. If you dont want to do this, use the msconfig.exe to deactivate everything you dont need to run in the background. - Antivirus (The worst thing you can do to a computer performance are two parallel antivirus tools. They check each other and build up performance holes. Sadly some software like Adobe products try to install a new Antivirus tools in the background if your not careful.) Possible solution: Check what antivirus tools you have / uninstall and configure exclusions for the Enemy Territory folder. - Drivers (Hardware vendors usually update their drivers every other month. These updates solve security and performance issues) Possible solution: Visit the webpages from your hardware vendors and keep drivers up to date. Especially with graphic cards: Try different drivers which are the best for your FPS game. Check you laptops mainboard drivers (Chipset Driver), they can cause performance issues if not installed correctly. - Windows maintenance (Windows writes a lot of temp files and trash stuff in the background over time. And quick search showed that HWmonitor can lie about temps, so does the laptop feel like really hot? Normally you should be able to feel a little air coming out the side vent and a little air being sucked in the bottom vent. Check that first.
