Most Computer and Gaming mag's will tell you at their current price points (AMD just cut prices for Mid-high to High end cards like this), the AMD cards will out perform similar priced nVidia offerings. Although the 290x cards have ticked up slightly again from their $300 lows in January and February due to higher demand again, and dwindling supplies, as AMD's new 300x series cards are about to also be released before long. Vanaraud Posted March 3, 2015 Share Posted March 3, 2015 I´ve got Sapphire r9 290 Tri-x OC, its quiet(don´t hear over case fans), its cool and can tick Ultra in any game in HD;) For ~300$ its best choise. I wouldn´t recommend 290X though, for 5FPS more you´d have to deal with lots of more heat\temps and noise, not worth it for more money in my eyes. r9 290 or next would be GTX970... Ain't nobody got time for AMD Don't be an nVidia Fan boy ... the AMD cards are great for the $$, that R9 290 for $245 is hard to beat for the $ ... but Butters, yeah the nVidia GTX 970 cards are great too, although I know someone (CruelKind) that has nothing but problems with his eVGA GTX970, has had to RMA it and STILL Can't play COD4 with it for whatever reason. So again ... no one should be a fan boy of nVidia OR AMD ... they both make GOOD cards and sometimes crap cards. Not necessarily, even if his computer doesn't come with the nifty plugs to go right into the GFX the card should come with the molex to nifty plug connector. I've got a 1000 Watt 80+ PLATINUM power supply for my R9 290x's ok just 1 right now, either want to upgrade to the R9 295x or look at the new R9 390x's when then come out soon. Do I recommend molex adapters? Nah. But Nvidia does provide them with the card hahaha. I WILL be a Nvidia fan boy so you shush it! I only have a 620W 80+Gold Rated psu Shit with the 970 pretty sure it uses less power then my card. And hes not running many more accesories.
