Polish Polish - Post your questions here

Recommended Posts

Could you please translate "How can I help" along with phonetics? Polish people are flooding my town since a couple of years :P

How can I help? - Jak mogę pomóc?

How can I help you? - Jak mogę ci pomóc?

How do you say "When will you finally learn how to play" ?

"When will you finally learn how to play" ? - Kiedy w końcu nauczysz się grać ?

Have you tried the Duolingo course for Polish? I'm not sure how effective it is as I'm a native speaker but doing the exercises should still end up helping. There was a good resource for people looking to try to learn Polish in a non-traditional way, however it isn't available anymore and it won't be until Jan 1, 2017. Another downside is that it isn't free.

Duolingo link: https://www.duolingo.com/course/pl/en/Learn-Polish-Online

RealPolish: http://realpolish.pl/listen-speak-polish/

A few other sites:

http://www.linguanaut.com/polish_verbs.htm

http://www.tastingpoland.com/language/verb/verb_infinitives.html

I actually use Duolingo to learn, thanks for the other websites!

Aye, thanks, but how does one pronounce this?

I think like:

Yak mo-ge pomoch?

Or

Yak mo-ge see pomoch? ;)))

-----------slav-power-------------

Kako mogu pomoći - Croatian

Jak moge pomoć? -Polish

Kak mogu pomoć? -Russian

Jak možu da pomogti? -Ukranian

That's interesting, are all slavic language close to each others like that? Can you understand Croatian or Russian if you speak Polish?

Dear Katon,

It's three group of slavic languages: west (polish, slovakian, czech), east (russian, ukranian, belorusian), south (croatian, slovenian, serbian, macedonian, bulgarian). /Look at my avatar: here is all of slavs countries flags/

Basically is at least 13%+ similarites between all these languages, coes the main ancient root is the same. We all was one people once :) It was near 700-800 AC. Now then I met Audrey, Kepar and Boom (my beloved Croatians!) on the coast of emerald Adriatical sea, we basically can UNDERSTAND each over. But we spoke english for faster communication. But 300 years before we practically spoke on the same language. Its like UK citizen go on vacation to... Jamaica! :) I've bet he will adapt in no time.

A similar story with Aniky, then I visited his special private restouran, I actually understand nearly all of his Slovenian sentences. But Aniky also speak Croatian ( very uncommon for young nascar drivers like him! ;) Easy-peasy with Mr. Vegeta (Serbian) too - we even share same cirillic alfabet!!

But answering your question: I think these link is very close: russian-ukranian-serbian-croatian-slovenian. Sneaky ukranians come to Northeren Russia or Adriatic Sea - and understand everything

Another lang link: polish-czech-slovakian-ukranian(again:) so you see, is the best being Ukranain. :) lol

I know russian and croatian. So then I am in Poland or CZ, I am always asking the personalle: Razumite Hrvatski ili Ruski? 50-50% they do! Yet Polish stand a litte far from anothers....

(I liked Croatia so much, so I moved to Zagreb, started to study in univercity, thinking about to spend all my life here... )

Hi hi !

As i intend to spend 10 days in Krakow at the end of the month, i'd like to know few words and sentenses suitable in polish with (if it's possible) their pronunciation with english/or french spelling (as the letters are different, quite hard to guess the sounds of words by just reading).

Thanks in advance!

That's really kind of you, but for now i can't use TS (it's been quite few months indeed, i know :/) thus why i wanted if possible to have a writen version. But if it's not possible or too hard, no worries :) I'll manage something.

Looking on couchsurfing if i can find a host or someone willing to show me around and who's also willing to share his/her knowledge too ^^

Thx anyway for your offer :3

Alrighty... But you won't ever learn pronoucing this particular lingo without repeating after someones voice.... no way you will learn to pronounce in using only written words and you will end up like the officer in the video

sorry but for a non slav Polish has extremely crazy grammar, pronounciation and more letters than you are used to eg. ą, ę, ć ż, ź, ł,  <=== THEY MATTER

I wish you good luck tho
