I always set the sleep and hibernate options of Win 7 like this:

Control Panel, Power Options: I don't let the computer sleep: never
Turn off display after: 20 minutes

Change Plan Settings:I set the minimum CPU uasage to 10%, Maximum to 100%

Sleep: Sleep after: Never
       Hibernate after: Never
Allow wake timers: Disable

Power Options: Require a password on wakeup(button):
When I press the power button: Shut down
When I press the sleep button: Do nothing
Password protection on wakeup: Don't require a password.
