Minecraft new update

Yeah, just to add onto what Joe said, we really don't know how long it'll take them to update craftbukkit. The 1.7 update took months, due to Mojang drastically changing their code to cope with the new biomes.

However, since now CraftBukkit will now be updated by official Mojang members like Dinnerbone (One of a the main Minecraft coders, former member of the Bukkit team), we may see quicker updates. That's just looking at it optimistically, though

Dinnerbone said on his Twitter

I started Bukkit, I'm going to personally see it through for 1.8. Updating it now  :)

While this is very reassuring, it does not tell us how long it's expected to take. So for now, we play the waiting game and drown in an endless pool of anticipation :D

How about we run plain vanilla server too with our current one? Would that work?

I thought that was what FA's MC server was ? ... plain vanilla survival mode 1.7.10 ... am I wrong ? not really all that knowledgeable on the various MC incarnations though to be honest, I just played it as something to take a break from all the shoot 'em up bang bang first person shooters.

no, our survival server technically isn't vanilla since it's running craftbukkit with plugins, a vanilla server is just plain vanilla minecraft, no bukkit, no plugins, nada.

@Dare if we do the vanilla server again, I would want it to be whitelisted (IE people would have to request being added to the list to play) since there will be no way to prevent random assholes from joining and destroying/vandalizing the server..been down that road with the OG creative and survival servers, never wanna go back to that, lol

Though given the current state of our main server, I think I'd rather focus on relaunching that for 1.8 with a fresh map...

How often minecraft updates are released? Like every few weeks or one quarter?

If updates are not a big problem then we should work first populating our current server. What u say? I will do whatever u tell me to do it :) It's your call completely.

Yeah, I can't wait either for the server to be updated. The boundful update is one of the best updates I've ever seen. That and the horse update. If someone vandalizes our server, can't you just undo that destroyed part, or just copy and paste a save in, Joe? But still, I like the server plug-ins. I just hate the retarted servers with 90 plug-ins and it doesn't even feel like minecraft.

Well yeah you can rollback to entire server, but then everyone loses their progress... Any nobody likes losing what they've done and having to do it again :(

I keep world back-ups as a safety net just incase coreprotect shits the bed (which I think it only has once on me but that was due to a database error that was my fault anyway). I much prefer to use CoreProtect than load a backup since I can just rollback one area as opposed to the entire world (even though it can do that too). With a vanilla server all I would have is back-ups to rely on...and I'm not really a fan of having to do that :\ so if I can avoid it by making the server whitelisted, that'd be the way to go for me.

Thats what I meant, back ups of the world. And it won't be too often some noob will just grief like that.
