Hi, PJG needs info about the euro server of F|A

I just came here for ask some help on the european server, F|A Beginners, i've been playing on F|A for a long time now and that last month i just had lots of problems with the lag on this server, i really cant play, and i've been playing on F|A 2, higer ping but much better the lag. I just need to know what i have to put on the console because "v04" do not work, it makes me more lag, thanks for the help to Classic and Surprise who ever have to hear me whinning, and sorry for that.

No idea if this will help you but I set my cl_timenudge -20 (or -30 I cant remember) and cl_maxpackets 50 or 60 yesterday or the day before and got my ping down from ~70/80 to ~30/40 and my bullets are hitting people a lot more often now rather then firing a whole mag and hardly anything registering, which started to make me visibly upset and angry :P

 

Could be worth playing around a little with those figures to see if it helps.

Remeber the defaults, nudge 0, packets 30 if you make things worse and want back to original.

 

 

Edit: My nudge is -30 and packets 100, ping ~30. Very smooth and responsive now.

timenudge is not allowed on etpro (actually locked more than not allowed), in fa servers it's allowed, but I think you should know what it actually does before trying it. And despite the fact that 30 packets is the 'default' it's considered an unacceptable value for many players (locked to 100 on etpro)

 

about maxpackets:

every frame your pc will generate a command (mouse moves, etc.) if the time passed between one command sent and the other is not at least 1000/cl_maxpackets, then the command is stored and not sent yet.

example:

125fps = a command every 1000/125 = 8 milliseconds, 100 packets = 1000/100 -> 10 milliseconds. So the 1st command is sent, the second is delayed because 8 is less than 10, then the third frame (8+8 = 16 > 10) you will send both.

bottom line: with low maxpackets you will move with a big step for one server frame then the other frame you won't move, etc. and everyone (me for sure) will hate you for your lack of sportsmanship.

 

timenudge:

timenudge will shift your time forward or backward, so you will see server frames in advance and predict the rest (negative timenudge) or later. It doesn't make you lag nor has any major impact on hitting, but since you will have to predict server frames instead of waiting for them to arrive, it's not good for you, and in fact I always set it to 0, not only because it's not allowed on etpro but also because I don't want my client to extrapolate frames, I wanna see the real players position to hit them. I guess antilag will make you hit at what you see in any case but just to make sure...

I am sure that your hitting more bullets is pure placebo, maybe your internet was better or you met more stationary nubs or afks than usual

 

I would recommend to anyone timenudge 0 and 100 maxpackets

I don't think it is.

Before I changed both, bullets were not even hitting people stood still sometimes or a few hitting seconds later, let alone people moving. The past couple of days since changing there is a HUGE difference, I can kill people that before bullets wouldn't even seem to touch and hits are near instant on almost every shot when on target.

 

Call it placebo all you like but there is a difference, I changed them in game and didn't magically get better or people all suddenly become "stationary nubs or afks" while I played around. Thanks for being ever so slightly condescending about it though <_<

Sorry, but before using sarcastic emoticons, you should think that some people know more than others. I don't write posts to mislead people or to troll, I just try to help them not to believe in myths or placebo settings

 

I didn't want to be offensive in any way I hope you understand that, only that I played and modded (just for fun, no major projects there) for 5 years, and you 'just' played (I don't even know how much) so I know a bit more things than you, let's say more than a bit, and what you say is not technically possible.

How do I know that you never modded? Well the same way one knows someone is not a mathematician if he says that 2+2=5.

 

I don't have jaymod source but jaymod's antilag should be based on unlagged2 so the way it works is like etpub etpro, etc., and anyway its purpose should be (if they coded it well, and I'm sure they did, seeing how some aimbotters with sten make almost only hs) to make you hit what you see, regardless of timenudge and stuff. And a negative timenudge could hurt more than helping there.

I see jaymod has a g_hitmodeAntilagLerp cvar, so I guess antilag makes some kind of linear interpolation between 2 stored snapshots, I wonder how this can work well with a negative nudge, where you have to extrapolate (predict) server frames. It certainly works well if the upper part of your lagometer is all blue.

 

Maybe your antilag was disabled when you didn't hit or you had internet lag or other problems. I don't say I don't want to believe you, but I can believe only what is technically possible, it's not about believing people it's about how things work. Especially if you talk about sensible improvements in your hitting.

 

If you really hit more, then something could have changed, but I don't think it's timenudge and even less maxpackets. Or rather, if you use settings that make you unhit (low maxpackets) then you might hit more because hitting under fire is harder, but it's not that your bullets register more.

 

Play a little bit with those settings and you will see if you just had a good day or you'll have a permanent skill boost.

I was more using that emotion because you seemed to be implying the only time I get hits on people is when they are stood still or afk which to be honest is a bit of a **** thing to say I think, I know I'm not the best, I play like crap now compared to how I played a few years ago but that's fine, I just try to have fun playing - sorry you take skill so seriously.

 

Anyway I will reply to a few parts:

I have played with them for a couple of days now and the hits are still better, firing I get a hit sound nice and fast where as before it took maybe a second sometimes, plus firing 15 bullets at someone crouched down then getting maybe 4 hit sounds during and AFTER I've died from them shooting me when I am clearly aiming at them. I played with I'M on WsW for quite a while and I'm more then capable of knowing when I aim on something and should be getting hits but instead being screwed and when my aim is off.

 

Also I never claimed I got a skill boost, just the above.

 

You're right I haven't "modded" ET - the *most* I've done is modifications to cube2 engine and helped to fix google translate support in some ioq3 builds, mapping and modelling for various things, I haven't and don't intend to look through the ET source, so don't worry, you do know much more.

 

Also once again, I only felt like you was trying insult me with your statement, and I originally I only set out to try help someone with something that fixed 'lag' for me, even mentioned how to reset it, not trying to sell snake oil.

I did so in a polite manner (because I think he may have took my comment the wrong way, when my comment was just being aimed at what he impied about me) and answered the points he made in a normal manner, and you delete me whole post?

 

Speachless, I know he is 'one of you' as the saying goes, but deleting my post, a polite defense and answers to his wall of text about how stupid I am am and he is smarter and better then me is complately out of order.

I did not insult him, like I said in my post you deleted I felt he was insulting me by saying I only get hits on "stationary nubs or afks" and that why I used the emotion he seemed to take the wrong way.

I didnt turn anything into an argument, I defend myself and answer his points nicely, but you delete my post and leave his, making me look bad.

 

I am not a troll,a nd to be honest your attitude and behaviour have quite shocked me compared to the nice friendly members os FA on the server!

I am not a troll, and I shall not *take part in these forums or your servers again since you treat me in such an unfair way. Goodbye.
